Composing

This six-part series falls into the true crime category, but we wanted to create an original score that was more subtle than sensational. The piano-centric theme underlines the seriousness of the topic, without adding overt emotion to a reporting project that was meant to be factual, informative and nuanced.

The Jayme Closs story is sensitive, tragic, and hopeful. We wanted to incorporate both grief and optimism into the original score for this series, respecting the somber moments and accentuating the triumphant ones.

That's so Minnesota is fun, upbeat, and so very Minnesota — full of north woods, quirky history, and hotdish. We chose to create a guitar-driven, light-hearted theme that matched the joy and playfulness of the show.

In recording and composing the original score for this documentary, we channeled our love for northern Minnesota. The earthy music summons backroads winding through rugged wilderness, breathtaking views of untouched nature, and the balance of beauty and hard work that defines this region of the world.
